Taming the Beast of Information Overload
Teranet, the organization that maintains the fully digital registry of all land titles in the Province of Ontario, is by the nature of its business a data intensive organization. Like most organizations, email has become a default method of communications for Teranet staff.
"We can't live without email as it is vital to running our operations", said Teranet's CIO, Mike Sliwinski. "We treat our email like a mission critical app in every respect and we need to provision it the same way we provision disaster recovery for our overall data structure."
Recognizing the challenge of how email was being maintained in the face of a rising tide of archiving requirements, Teranet needed to make a change in the way it managed and supported the email archiving needs for its 800 plus users.
Teranet evaluated five different options on the archiving front including offerings from IT Storage giants such as EMC. In the end, Teranet chose to adopt the Jatheon Plug n Comply solution because of its comprehensive archiving functionality and its simplistic deployment, taking the pressure of a major challenge off the shoulders of the IT department. "Jatheon's greatest strength might be how easy and fast it is to deploy their solution and how quickly the team responded to our needs", said Sliwinski. "You never really know until you see proof of concept, but they had us up and running in hours when the initial plan called for days."
Sliwinski recognized a strong desire on the part of Jatheon to quickly and firmly address any questions or concerns from he and his team. "Throughout the trial if we had questions Jatheon was there to respond on site to our concerns sometimes only minutes after we put down the phone. It was incredible service", said Sliwinski. "Ultimately they showed us that they were prepared to support us and the system has performed as promised, up to the high expectations we had."
Teranet is initially operating with centralized access to archived messaging but plans to implement user access levels over time as the company revises its standards and policies in the future to take advantage of the user friendly access that the Jatheon solution provides. The adoption of the Jatheon archiving solution has given Teranet's IT management a strategic approach to managing email messaging. This approach aligns with the organization's overall plans for gaining efficiency and performance in managing the software and IT architecture for the firm.
