Lakeside Logistics

In the transportation logistics business the phrase “time is money� is not only a truism it is also a fairly good description of the business. Jeff Moore of Lakeside Logistics knows this well.

As head of a 40 person operation that has grown dramatically in the past 20 years, Jeff can attest to the importance of data and information management in their business operations. Lakeside Logistics relies on this to help manage the warehousing, transportation and distribution workflow for many large FP500 companies such as Campbells, Ocean Spray, CIBA and Xerox among others.

“In our business we are technology driven and a key component of that is our ability to effectively manage data and information,� said Moore. “Email is the foundation of most of our customer communications but it is also something we have struggled with in the past when it came to archiving and retrieving information from our email system.�

Moore, who confesses that he personally was one of the worst offenders in the company, noted that his email inbox was one and a half years deep and constantly degrading the performance of his desktop and the company’s network. “I would constantly get harassed by my own IT staff when I would complain about performance and they would rightly point out that I was the cause of my own problem,� said Moore. “I couldn’t let go of my email as I relied on it being there even if it took me way too long to fi nd anything.�

Jeff related his story to Kieron Dowling from Jatheon Technologies, who gave him insight into how a simple and effective technology solution from Jatheon could address all of his individual concerns and other issues that were likely common throughout the organization. As a result of those discussions, Lakeside Logistics proceeded with a trial and after an installation process that lasted less than 60 minutes, the company was up and running. More than 75 percent of Lakeside Logistics business involves cross border traffic where U.S. border scrutiny and security have increased significantly. As a result, any significant disruption at a border can quickly lead to delays and even result in plant shut downs when so much depends upon deliveries being on time.

“Response time in our business is huge and things are changing minute to minute,� says Moore. “When you have issues at the border documentation can be the key to releasing that transport. Having an email archiving solution that allows us to pull up documentation in seconds instead of hours could mean the difference between keeping a truck rolling or having to shut down a plant.�

After a short trial Lakeside Logistics made the decision to move to a full implementation of the Jatheon Plug n Complyâ„¢ solution.
