Pierre Villeneuve

Pierre was a co-founder of Mapleridge Capital in 1998, a very successful high frequency Toronto-based hedge fund.  He was responsible for all aspects of the business in his role as Chairman and President of the firm.  He sold his ownership in April 2009 and now resides in Switzerland with his family.  Pierre has a Bachelor of Mathematics (Computer Science) degree from the University of Waterloo as well as an M.B.A. from the Schulich School of Business.  He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia.  After earning his undergraduate degree, Pierre worked as a Financial Advisor at a predecessor firm to Merrill Lynch & Co (Canada) advising private clients.  Upon graduating business school, he joined a predecessor firm to BMO Nesbitt Burns Limited where he began his career as a developer of quantitative trading strategies and portfolio manager.

Colin Webster

Colin Webster is the founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Hero Ventures Ltd. since 2003. He is responsible for the overall corporate and investment vision of the Company. Colin has a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering/Economics from Princeton University. After university , he worked for NCR Canada providing UNIX tech support, then moved to Belgium and became Manager of Inland Operations for CAST Shipping developing internal money saving software systems. Colin worked for Hummingbird Communications Ltd as Product Manager for their flagship software product in Toronto, which brought in over $100 million revenue in 1996. He founded reBOOT Canada, a non-profit charity that recycles computers from corporations and donates them to charities across Canada. Colin holds two patents for sports glasses technologies. Colin founded an Interactive Classifieds web site for used computers called the UsedComputerExchange.com in Dec 1997, which was renamed edeal Services Corp. in 1998. As CEO of edeal for 5 years, Colin  raised over $6 million from various sources including J.L.Albright Partners before the company was renamed Truition Inc. Truition was sold in 2009 to CDC software. Colin founded Jatheon Technologies in 2003 and founded FirstCoverage Inc in 2005. Through Hero Ventures, Colin has invested in a dozen companies and sits on three boards.

Dr. Robert A Young

Bob manages personal private equity investments in early stage technology companies through IRT, Inc and is a co-founding Managing Director of Mirador Capital LLC, a private equity firm invested in U.S. venture capital firms. Previously, he was Chairman and CEO of Curl Corporation, an Internet infrastructure software company. Prior to that, he was a senior partner and Managing Director at Dillon, Read & Co. Inc., an investment bank, where he had corporate finance responsibility for information technology companies. He had previously served as the Managing General Partner of Dillon Read's venture capital funds from 1987 to 1994. These funds invested in early stage companies in information technology, biotechnology, energy and financial services. Bob’s personally directed investments included SanDisk, Tessera, Virtual Machine Works and Team Bank. From 1991 to 1995, He was also an advisor to Barings Private Equity Partners, a global private equity group headquartered in London.

Bob started his business career with IBM where, over an 18 year period, he held a number of management and executive positions in sales, marketing, engineering and general management. His last position at IBM was as President, IBM Instruments, a fully integrated global company with operations in the US and several European countries. IBM Instruments' products consisted of a broad range of scientific instruments and real-time scientific computers. He is a founding investor and Director of Tessera (NASDAQ: TSRA), the leading semi-conductor interconnect technology company and was also a Director of ATI Technologies (NASDAQ: ATYT), a leading producer of 3-D graphics and multimedia products until its merger with AMD in 2006. Bob is also an investor and Director of several private technology companies: SRC Computers, a producer of re-configurable, high performance computers; Innolume, a company producing quantum dot lasers for chip-to-chip computer interconnect applications; SBG Labs Inc. which has unique solid-state optical device technology; Open-xchange, which offers an open source exchange server product; and Novitaz, a company producing active RFID hardware and software modules for unique customer-centric, loyalty-based solutions in retail.

Dr. Young has served on the visiting committees of the both the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Department of Chemistry at MIT and is an advisor to PolyTechnos, a European venture capital firm headquartered in Munich. He holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from MIT.

Kieron Dowling - President & CEO

Mr. Dowling brings more than 24 years of information technology industry experience to the company, having served as President & CEO of Cygnal Technologies as well as having served in senior executive roles as Vice President & General Manager, March Networks; Vice President & General Manager, Alcatel (formerly Newbridge Networks); Global Vice President Marketing and Business Development, Celestica; and Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Nortel Networks where he also served in a number of sales and marketing roles over a 13 year period. He began his career with Bell Canada. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Finance from McMaster University.
